Diane Finley Highlights Government of Canada Committment to Promote Women as Leaders
Simcoe, Ontario – On behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, local Member of Parliament Diane Finley today met with local business and community leaders concerning women’s leadership and participation on boards.
“Women are a vital part of our country’s economy, representing about half of Canada’s workforce and consistently proving their value in the management ranks of businesses large and small,” said Minister Ambrose. “Increasing opportunities for women to serve on corporate boards makes good business sense for Canadian women and for Canada’s economy.”
“With Canada’s Economic Action Plan 2012 focused on jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for Canadians, the contributions of women leaders in Canada are more vital than ever before,” said Diane Finley. “The more women have a seat at the table, including in the boardroom, the more they can contribute to jobs, growth and prosperity.”
Economic Action Plan 2012 announced the creation of an advisory council of leaders from the private and public sectors to promote women’s participation on corporate boards. Minister Ambrose is working with the private sector to promote the participation of women on boards, to champion their leadership, and to link corporations to a network of women with professional skills and experience.
