Budget 2015: Advancing Agriculture

Canada is the 5th largest exporter of agricultural goods globally with export sales of $46 billion and the Government of Canada recognizes the importance of the agriculture and agri-food sector to our economy and economic growth.

The Government of Canada will continue to invest in innovation, competition and market development so that our farmers can seize great market opportunities.

One of the ways we’re doing that is through the Canadian Agricultural Loans Act (CALA) program, which is designed to increase the availability of loans to establish, improve and develop farms.
Economic Action Plan 2015 builds on our strong record of supporting farmers and advancing agriculture through:

  • $18.1 million over two years, starting in 2016-17, to expand the activities of the Market Access Secretariat, to introduce new agriculture trade commissioners abroad and play a more active role in setting international science-based standards
  • Provides to expand the AgriMarketing Program $12 million over two years, starting in 2016-17, building on the $341 million over 5 years in funding currently available to promote and differentiate Canadian agriculture and agri-food products in a highly competitive global and domestic marketplace
