Meet The Candidate

Diane-Finley.jpgDiane Finley was first elected to Parliament in 2004 and re-elected in 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2015.

Diane passionately represents the beautiful riding of Haldimand-Norfolk, home to over 150 kilometers of Lake Erie shorelines, the historic Grand River, Canada’s most agriculturally diverse farm land and some of the friendliest, hardworking and industrious people in all of Canada.

In August 2017, Andrew Scheer, the Conservative Party Leader asked Diane to continue in her position of Caucus-Party Liaison in preparation of the scheduled 2019 Election. She was also appointed to the House Leadership Team and will have a seat on the Planning and Priorities Committee of the Conservative Caucus, the Leader’s official decision-making forum

When first elected in 2004 Diane was named Official Critic for Agriculture and Agrifood and from 2006 to 2015 she served in Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Cabinet: from 2006 to 2015 as Minister of Human Resources & Skills Development Canada, Minister responsible for CMHC, Citizenship & Immigration Canada, and Public Works & Government Services Canada and as Canada’s Receiver General. Diane also served as Regional Minister for Southwest Ontario from 2008 to 2015. Following the 2015 General Election, Diane was appointed to the position of Deputy Critic for Innovation, Science, and Economic Development and in April 2016 was Named Official Critic for this portfolio and held it until Andrew Scheer announced his Shadow Cabinet. Diane also served as the Conservative Caucus Liaison to the Conservative Party of Canada. This included her playing a significant role in conducting a cross-Canada post-election review of the Conservative Party Campaign, as well as her participation on the Leadership Election Organizing Committee that sets and monitors the rules for the Conservative Party to elect its new leader.
