2016 Tax-filing season

2016 Tax-filing season

Conservatives have always recognized the importance of you keeping more of your own hard-earned money. As Canada’s Official Opposition, our Conservative Caucus is proud of our record of lowering taxes during our time in government. In fact, while in government we reduced taxes over 200 times, saving the average Canadian family over $6,600 per year.

It is soon time to file income tax returns and most Canadian income tax and benefit returns for 2015 are due on April 30, 2016. However, as this date is a Saturday, the CRA will consider a return as filed on time and a payment as made on time if the submission is received by the CRA or postmarked by midnight on May 2, 2016.

Did you know that 82% of individual tax returns are now filed electronically? The Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) online services are fast, easy, secure, and allow taxpayers to:

• file their return;
• use the new Auto-fill my return service;
• track their refund;
• make a payment;
• receive their notice of assessment or of reassessment;
• change their personal information;
• sign up for direct deposit of refunds into their bank account;
• apply for child benefits;
• sign up for online mail with the CRA;
