Diane Finley

Meet The Candidate

Diane-Finley.jpgDiane Finley was first elected to Parliament in 2004 and re-elected in 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2015.

Diane passionately represents the beautiful riding of Haldimand-Norfolk, home to over 150 kilometers of Lake Erie shorelines, the historic Grand River, Canada’s most agriculturally diverse farmland, and some of the friendliest, hardworking and generous people in all of Canada.

In August 2017, Andrew Scheer, the new Conservative Party Leader, asked Diane to continue in her position of Caucus-Party Liaison in preparation for the 2019 Election. She was also appointed to the House Leadership Team and the Planning and Priorities Committee, the Leader’s official decision-making forum.

When first elected in 2004, Diane was named Official Opposition Critic for Agriculture and Agrifood. From 2006 to 2015, she served in Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Cabinet as Minister of Human Resources & Skills Development, Minister Responsible for CMHC, Minister of Citizenship & Immigration, Minister of Public Works & Government Services, and also as Canada’s Receiver General. Additionally, Diane served as The Regional Minister for Southwestern Ontario (the Prime Minister’s lieutenant) from 2008 to 2015.

Following the 2015 General Election, Diane was named the official Liaison between the Caucus and the Conservative Party, and was also appointed Deputy Shadow Minister for Innovation, Science, and Economic Development. In April 2016, she was named Shadow Minister for this portfolio. As Caucus-Party Liaison, she played a significant role in conducting the cross-Canada post-election review of the Conservative Party’s 2015 campaign, and served on the Party’s Leadership Election Organizing Committee that set and monitored the rules.

Prior to her election, Diane held senior positions in both the public and private sectors encompassing health care, transportation, agricultural equipment manufacturing, printing and publishing, and aviation.
